Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has reportedly expressed interest in potentially exploring coaching opportunities in the NFL next season, according to a new bombshell report by Dianna Russini. Sarkisian has been with the program since 2021. He's overseen their return to prominence, including a move to the SEC.
The Longhorns were struggling when Sarkisian arrived. After winning five and eight contests respectively in his first two campaigns, the Longhorns have won double-digit games in consecutive seasons. Despite that, they've failed to win a National Championship, and things are trending downward in 2025.
Quarterback Arch Manning isn't developing as expected. The 20th-ranked Longhorns are 6-2 and don't appear headed for the postseason. Sarkisian may be attempting to abandon a sinking ship.
There will be legitimate interest in Sarkisian, however. His brilliant offensive mind will be in demand. We've identified three potential NFL landing spots for Sarkisian.
Atlanta Falcons
Things aren't necessarily going well for Raheem Morris and the Atlanta Falcons. They were embarrassed on Sunday, losing 34-10 to the lowly Miami Dolphins. The Falcons are 3-4 and trailing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South by three wins already.
The offense is sputtering. Morris took a chance on Zac Robinson when he was hired, appointing Sean McVay's former quarterbacks coach as his offensive coordinator. That gamble has backfired, with the Falcons scoring the fifth-fewest points (17.1) per game. There's a ton of young talent on this Falcons offense. Expectations should be higher. Perhaps Sarkisian would fully unlock them.
Tennessee Titans
Russini's initial report mentioned the Tennessee Titans by name, insinuating Sarkisian possesses interest in their vacancy. It's worth noting that the Titans possess the only current official opening, as Brian Callahan was the first coach fired in 2025. Perhaps that makes Sarkisian’s interest circumstantial.
The Titans have a young franchise quarterback in Cam Ward who has been failed by the coaching staff during his rookie season. Sarkisian is an offensive genius and would potentially help Ward develop into the signal caller he's capable of becoming. After whiffing on Callahan, we're not sure the Titans will be willing to take a shot on a risky candidate like Sarkisian, though.
Houston Texans
Could Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans be on the hot seat? The 3-4 Texans played well on Sunday, defeating the San Francisco 49ers. But they are 3-4, third place in the AFC South and four wins behind the division-leading Indianapolis Colts. Furthermore, Ryans has really struggled with sorting out the offense.
Ryans fired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik despite winning a postseason game last year. He appointed Nick Caley, McVay's tight ends coach with the Los Angeles Rams, as Slowik's replacement. The offense has struggled under Caley this year. Third-year quarterback C.J. Stroud has largely regressed since his incredible rookie season. The offense ranks 17th in yards per game and 19th in points. If the Texans think about making a change, Sarkisian could emerge as a popular in-state candidate.
