Emmanuel Pregnon Scouting Report
Emmanuel Pregnon is an athletic interior offensive lineman who plays with physicality and a finishing mentality.
Draft Grade: Round 1 - Pro Bowl Caliber
Strengths:
Athleticism: Pregnon appears to be a good overall athlete for an IOL. He plays with good body control, showing the ability to effectively pull and locate defenders under control. He can also double-team to the second level and arrive in a controlled manner. Pregnon plays with good overall body control and is usually in a position to be balanced.
Pass Protection: Pregnon showcases good pass protection ability. Pregnon plays with a good overall base and good knee bend. This allows him to be in a position to react to defenders moving laterally, while also dealing with power rushers to stop them from collapsing the pocket. Pregnon also has good overall IQ to identify blitzes and seal off gaps. He has good punch timing combined with good hand placement.
Functional Strength: Pregnon has good overall strength—from his upper body to his core and lower body—which helps in different areas of his game. In the run game, Pregnon can create movement along the line of scrimmage and displace defenders. In pass protection, Pregnon utilizes his strength to be able to sit and anchor on power rushers. When Pregnon decides to sit down and anchor, he can stop penetration and halt the rush.
Concerns:
Overaggressive: Pregnon plays with a high motor and a willingness to physically dominate defenders. This mentality can backfire, though, because there are moments where Pregnon gets too eager to make contact in both the run game and in pass pro, which leads to him lunging forward at defenders and being off-balance. It gives defenders opportunities to use different counters to quickly shed Pregnon.
Lateral Movements: Pregnon shows to be a good overall athlete, but there are reps in pass protection where his lateral movements appear to be delayed. Pass rushers who are gap penetrators and attack the edges of Pregnon have an opportunity to get penetration. Pregnon needs to improve his reaction time.
