Texas center Jake Majors enters the 2025 NFL Draft having lived the dream. Growing up in nearby Prosper, Texas, Majors went on to represent the home state Longhorns. The powerful offensive lineman departs the program having made a record 56 career starts.
Majors recently spoke exclusively with The Draft Network. Majors discussed representing the Texas Longhorns, preparing for the NFL Combine with the Excel Sports Performance team, his favorite plays to run in the playbook, and more.
JM: You grew up in Prosper, Texas and went on to play five seasons for the Texas Longhorns. Talk about living the dream. What has it meant to represent the hometown team?
Jake Majors: It meant the world to me. That’s a logo you don’t rep lightly. I wore it with pride. It was about honoring the alumni who laid down a foundation before me. It was a dream come true to play at the highest level of college football. I left the program in better shape than I found it in.
JM: And talk about leaving a legacy. You leave with a program-record 56 career starts. How do you think that experience will serve you at the next level?
Jake Majors: It’s a testament to my availability and durability. I was always available for a game. That doesn’t happen without doing all of the background stuff right, things like nutrition and sleep.
I did what was necessary in the training room to get my body right. It’ll translate to the next level because I’ve been very durable when playing this sport.
JM: You've been working with Curt Truhe and Sazi Guthrie of the Excel Sports team throughout the pre-draft process. I know they’ve been getting you right.
Jake Majors: Transitioning from a 16-game season to the pre-draft process can be difficult, but Curt and Sazi made that transition as smooth as possible. They instilled confidence in me early. They’ve been there by my side the entire way.
From the NFL Combine to my Pro Day, I felt well prepared. Like you said, they’re the best in the business. I feel super blessed to be working with them. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. I’ve only known them for a short period of time, but it feels like I’ve known them forever. We have a tight-knit relationship.
JM: They really are the best. I feel like a high football IQ is at the center of your game. Talk to me about being the quarterback of the offensive line. It's a role you were born to play.
Jake Majors: I take a lot of pride in laying that foundation down. That’s how I saw it at Texas and that’s how I’ll continue seeing it at the next level as well. You have to communicate at a high level to play the center position.
You have to recognize defenses and tendencies at a high level. At the end of the day, you have to be a physical player. It all starts by setting the tone early. It’s about identifying your calls and checks. Whether it’s pass or run, this game is a lot of fun.
It’s more than X’s and O’s. It’s a chess game. It’s like solving a very complex problem. I like to be the one leading from the front.
JM: You’ve done that at a high level. What was your favorite play to run in the playbook? Something you got excited about in the huddle.
Jake Majors: I love duo. I think I have to say that as an offensive lineman (laughs). One of our best plays was a gap pass backside screen to the running back. We sold the gap pass and flipped it to our running back for an explosive play. That was one of my favorites because I was able to get out in space and showcase my athleticism once in a while.
JM: I’ve never met a lineman that didn’t like duo (laughs).
Jake Majors: That’s what I’m saying! That’s your bread and butter. That’s like your fastball in football terms. You have to be able to execute that every time. Our curveball was our screen play after selling the gap pass.
JM: I love that. It’s that time of year on the calendar. Do you have any team visits or workouts coming up?
Jake Majors: I’ve had a good amount of meetings and virtual visits. I also met with a ton of teams at the NFL Combine. It was tough to keep track of that, but I had a great time in Indianapolis. I met with teams before and after Pro Day as well. I’ve been meeting with offensive line coaches on Zoom.
I met with the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Houston Texans, and New England Patriots in person around Pro Day. I recently met with the Washington Commanders on Zoom.
JM: There’s a lot of interest in you and it’s easy to see why. We've appreciated your time. What kind of impact is Jake Majors going to make at the next level?
Jake Majors: I’m going to put my best foot forward. The unknown represents the beauty within the game. My hard work will show on game day. Right now, I’m keeping my head down and putting that hard work in.
I’m going to stay patient. When I get to an NFL team, I’ll be hard to replace.
