The FCS has long been a hidden gem in the world of college football, producing NFL talent that often goes unnoticed by the common eye.

While the annual draft spotlight tends to shine on the Power Four programs that headline your Saturday viewing schedule, the FCS level consistently showcases a wealth of intriguing skill sets. Stemming from conversations within league circles over the spring and summer, here are a few prospects to become familiar with in this rendition of ‘FCS Friday’, a piece that will update weekly as names continue to flash during the fall.

Grey Zabel, OT, North Dakota State

Grey Zabel is North Dakota State’s headlining prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft class at left tackle. There have been early conversations about him moving to guard at the next level—similar to Cody Mauch a few years ago—but he’s as good as it comes in the country as far as tackle play. Expect to see him at a pre-draft showcase in the coming months.

Malcolm Reed, SAF, North Carolina Central

A native of nearby Raleigh, North Carolina, Malcolm Reed leads all FCS safeties in PBUs (7) through nine weeks. When targeted, he’s allowed minimal catches and yards in space, and his name has continued to circulate as one of the rising defenders among the HBCU ranks. He’s also been impactful on special teams in his career, as well.

JaVonnie Gibson, WR, Arkansas Pine-Bluff

The FCS leader in receiving yards (937), what makes Gibson pop is his ability to create chunk plays. He’s accrued nearly 1,000 yards on just 44 receptions this fall, good for more than 21 yards a catch. He’s been lighting in a bottle for the Golden Lions and is a headlining athlete from the HBCU ranks.

Josiah Silver, EDGE, New Hampshire

I’ve been wanting to highlight Silver for some time, and I’m glad his production has continually increased as the year has worn on. The FCS leader in sacks with 11, Silver is a modern edge defender at 6-foot-2 and 247 pounds with the get-off and bend to dominate the FCS level. A finalist for the Jerry Rice Award (freshman of the year) back in 2021, Silver made four All-American teams after his sophomore season in 2022 and was a second-team All-CAA selection in 2023.
