Film Analysis:

Ali Jennings is a fluid pass-catcher whose playmaking ability showcases an intriguing athlete on the outside. While Jennings’ health remains of the utmost importance (missed the majority of 2023), his athleticism and playmaking ability remain highly intriguing.

Jennings aligned primarily on the perimeter during his time at ODU and in his two games for the Hokies last fall. However, his quick footwork and creativity could see him work in the slot primarily at the next level. Jennings has room for improvement in his release package, where a vertical release looks to be his ‘A’ move against press. Does a nice job fighting through the hands of corners to get on top. A diversified route tree is present but would like to see a higher rate of crossers and designated touches. Jennings does not live above the rim, but he’s a willing participant with the ball on arrival down the field. Jennings’ profile expands when studying his ability after the catch. Not a burner or a physical type of ballplayer, but his awareness to understand his surroundings before the catch sets him up for extra yards once the ball is in his possession. He has good speed, not great. He’s also a willing blocker.

Concerns remain about his overall explosiveness post-ankle injury last fall and his consistency from year to year. Finding a happy median in his play, as well as staying available, will assist in finalizing his prospect profile. Jennings also has room to add muscle mass. While he isn’t afraid to stick his face in the mud as a run blocker, added bulk will help in sealing corners on perimeter runs.

Overall, Jennings’ profile remains fluid following his injury last fall. However, he’s a player whose game should have a decent spotlight considering the talent around him in Blacksburg. His creativity after the catch and easy hands showcase a player worth adding to a wide receivers’ room, should he remain healthy.
