Film Analysis:

Chris Tyree is a former running back at Notre Dame who switched to wide receiver his senior season and led the Fighting Irish in receiving yards. A two-phase player on offense and special teams with both punt and kick-returning experience, he has a versatile skill set that allows him to impact games. Now at Virginia, he’s hoping to showcase his skills as a receiver in a more prominent role.

Getting into his stem, Tyree does an excellent job selling routes vertically and maintaining the rigidity in his sell before breaking in or out. Paired with his quick get-off from the slot, he can force defenders to give their intentions away. In doing so, Tyree uses some of his experience as a running back, reads the defender's leverage well, and exploits it on deeper intermediate routes. He uses speed, quickness, and good contact balance from his low center of gravity to effectively generate yards after the catch.

Tyree is a raw prospect; having just changed to receiver, he’s still learning the nuances of manipulation and reading the defensive coverages with zone specifically. He needs to use his hands better through the route to dislodge defenders who play more physically and use them more in the catch process. Going into 2024, learning a more diverse route tree and intention at the top of routes will help him show development as a receiver.

Overall, Tyree is a slot-only receiver who will be impactful in schemed-up situations and with the ball in his hands. Providing value as a returner could be the key for him in making NFL rosters.
