Film Analysis:

Logan Diggs started his career at Notre Dame before a return home to LSU, and now he’s at Ole Miss. At all programs, Diggs provided a physical presence and was consistent in his production through the years, averaging more than 4.4 yards per carry since his freshman year.  Diggs is a reliable player who has good plays in both the run game and on passing plays.

Diggs, at 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, is a one-cut downhill, in-between-the-tackles runner who prefers to get his pads north and south as soon as possible. From the time Diggs receives the handoff he can identify vacant openings and make cuts to get through them, showing to have good vision. Once in the hole, Diggs can get skinny and slip through cracks to get to the second level of the defense. On the second level of the defense, Diggs can accelerate in a straight line and choose to use his physical run style to run over defenders to pick up extra yardage or reduce his surface area to force defenders to only arm tackle him. In the open field, Diggs becomes a bruiser, using stiff arms and running over defensive backs, usually having to be brought down by multiple defenders.

In the passing game, Diggs has shown the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield in the short areas of the field. The most impressive part of Diggs' contribution to the passing game is his pass protection. Diggs is reliable at picking up blitzers, showing the ability to scan for free runners at the quarterback and pick them up. Diggs is tough and will step in to make contact and slow the defenders down, giving his quarterback that extra second to get rid of the football.

For everything that Diggs offers as a physical runner, there appears to be a limitation to his game attached to his athletic ability. In situations such as being one-on-one in the open field with defenders—or when there’s an opportunity to pull away from defenders in open space—Diggs' limited athleticism shows. The traits of elusiveness and explosiveness are not evident for Diggs, which results in him being tackled or he has to use his strength to pick up extra yardage.

Overall, Diggs can be a valuable part of a running back rotation where he can be utilized in between the tackles or in short-yardage situations to pick up key first downs.
