The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft is officially in the books! We saw a total of five trades throughout the evening with plenty of wheeling and dealing.

The Minnesota Vikings began the pick swapping by trading one pick up the board to No. 10 to select Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy. The Vikings later moved up again for Alabama EDGE Dallas Turner. Other trades saw the hometown Detroit Lions move up for Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold, and the Carolina Panthers for wide receiver Xavier Legette.

Every general manager should consider adopting a similarly aggressive mindset entering Friday's second and third rounds. With the opening 32 selections in our rearview mirror, we've swiftly identified three franchises that should consider trading up in the second round.

GREEN BAY PACKERS

The Packers stayed put at No. 25 and drafted the best offensive linemen available in Arizona's Jordan Morgan. A versatile blocker, Morgan projects as the starting left tackle or right guard in the Packers' offense next season. With a plug-and-play prospect secured, I'd like to see general manager Brian Gutekunst get aggressive on Friday evening.

The Packers currently own four selections in rounds two and three at Nos. 41, 58, 88, and 91 overall. That’s enough draft capital to move around as necessary. Linebacker or defensive back were positional candidates to be addressed in the first round. With studs like Edgerrin Cooper and Cooper DeJean still available, the Packers should attempt to jump up into the mid-30s to ensure they land a difference-making defender.

LOS ANGELES RAMS

The Rams allegedly tried to move up from No. 19 overall, but ultimately remained put and drafted Florida State EDGE Jared Verse with their original selection. Verse should pair with Byron Young to form an ascending edge duo in Los Angeles. Rams general manager Les Snead should consider trading up for another defensive lineman on Friday.

Aaron Donald's retirement left a crater-sized hole on the interior. The Rams currently have Kobie Turner, Bobby Brown III, and not much else at defensive tackle. Illinois' Johnny Newton is arguably the best available overall player heading into Friday. Newton is a bonafide top 20 overall talent in this class.

The Tennessee Titans (No. 38), Cincinnati Bengals (No. 49), and Miami Dolphins (No. 55) are among the potential candidates who could also look to draft a defensive tackle like Newton on Friday. With Nos. 83 and 99 qualifying as additional capital, Snead should attempt to move up from No. 52 to secure Newton's services.

BUFFALO BILLS

Bills general manager Brandon Beane executed a double trade-back on Thursday, first from No. 28 to 32, and then 32 to 33. The Bills are now slated to make Friday's opening selection. Beane is expected to target a wide receiver like Adonai Mitchell, Keon Coleman, or Ladd McConkey.

The Bills acquired three additional selections by trading down twice, including the No. 95 pick from the Kansas City Chiefs. Exiting this draft with a starting-caliber defensive tackle is a necessity. After drafting a wide receiver at 33, Beane should consider moving up from No. 60 for Michigan's Kris Jenkins.
