CALEB WILLIAMS, QB, USC
Wouldn't it be fitting if the first cover athlete of EA College Football's return was also the projected No. 1 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft? USC's Caleb Williams is the overwhelming favorite to join the Chicago Bears. Dynamic quarterbacks make fitting cover athletes and Williams checks multiple boxes.
The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner enjoyed another strong campaign in 2023, throwing for 3,333 yards and 30 touchdowns. The dual-threat Williams added a career-high 11 rushing touchdowns to his offensive totals. Williams would be an outstanding choice to mark EA's college football video game return.
MARVIN HARRISON JR., WR, OHIO STATE
Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Crabtree, and DeSean Jackson are among the all-time great college receivers to don the covers of EA's NCAA football series. If EA decides to highlight a wide receiver as opposed to a quarterback, Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. is every bit deserving. Harrison Jr. was arguably college football’s best overall player this past season.
An expected top-five selection this April, Harrison Jr. is an elite wideout with big-time ball skills. Playing with Harrison Jr. would have been electric, but unfortunately, EA didn't release the game a year earlier when Harrison Jr. would have been eligible. EA's decision-makers can still immortalize Harrison Jr. by making him this year's cover athlete.
ROME ODUNZE, WR, WASHINGTON
From one elite receiver prospect to another, Washington's Rome Odunze should also garner consideration. Odunze led the entire nation in receiving yards (1,640) this season. The big-bodied playmaker averaged an explosive 17.8 yards per catch, totaling 92 receptions and 13 touchdowns.
Odunze is a dominant X-type receiver with the skill set necessary to make game-changing plays. Cover athletes should carry themselves with confidence and swagger. Odunze should meet EA’s criteria.
CARSON BECK, QB, GEORGIA
If EA opts to select a cover athlete who will play college football in 2024, Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck should be their top choice. Beck established himself as an elite quarterback throughout 2023, throwing for 3,941 yards and 24 touchdowns versus just six interceptions.
Beck is expected to take a sizable step forward in 2024 while positioning Georgia for another run at a National Championship. An early favorite as the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Beck is cover-athlete-worthy.
QUINN EWERS, QB, TEXAS
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers offers the decision-makers an alternative choice if the cover intends to highlight a current college football player. Ewers bypassed an opportunity to enter the 2024 NFL Draft, opting to return to the Longhorns for another season instead.
Ewers will spearhead one of college football's most explosive offenses for a second consecutive campaign in 2024. Ewers threw for career-highs in yards (3,479) and touchdowns (22) this past season while leading the program to the College Football Playoff. Spotlighting Texas and Ewers would be a popular choice.
