Monroe Freeling Scouting Report

Monroe Freeling has a great combination of athleticism, length, and IQ, which projects him to be a high-caliber starting LT for an NFL franchise for the next decade.

Draft Grade: Round 1 - Pro Bowl Caliber

Strengths:

Size/Length: Freeling has excellent size, measuring in at 6-foot-7 and 315 pounds with 34 3/4-inch arms—all of which are ideal measurements for an NFL left tackle. Freeling’s size and length help him operate at a highly effective and efficient level, using his massive wingspan to keep edge rushers at bay.

IQ/Football Intelligence: Freeling showcases a strong understanding of the LT position. He is capable of picking up twists and stunts while also recognizing delayed blitzes. He makes sound decisions on which defender is the most immediate threat to the quarterback and communicates well across the line.

Functional Strength: Freeling possesses good overall strength, which is evident in both the run game and pass protection. In pass protection, he is able to use his strength once he shoots his hands and engages, allowing him to immediately sit and anchor down on power rushers.

Athleticism/Lateral Movements: Although Freeling is a massive prospect, he has elite overall movement skills. He has a quick first step and lateral agility, which he uses to be an effective blocker in the run game. In pass protection, Freeling can move laterally to react to counter-moves; when defenders "cross his face" to change from an outside to an inside track, he can effectively seal off the inside gap.

Concerns:

Limited Starts: Freeling has the upside to be an elite OT prospect. However, he has had a limited number of starts (17 career starts at Georgia), which may give NFL teams cause for pause. This relative lack of game experience, particularly compared to other top-tier tackles in the 2026 class, means he is still developing his "feel" and consistency at the position.

Leverage/Pad Height: Because Freeling is a taller LT prospect at 6-foot-7, he naturally starts at a deficit in the leverage battle against shorter, more compact defenders. In the run game, it is sometimes difficult for Freeling to consistently establish a low pad level to get his hands underneath a defender’s pads and properly onto their chest plate. This high-center-of-gravity issue can lead to him losing ground against powerful bull-rushers or savvy edge-setters who get under his frame.
