Film Analysis:

Jared Ivey is a redshirt senior draft prospect who spent part of his collegiate career at Georgia Tech before transferring to Ole Miss for the 2023 season. At Ole Miss, Ivey quickly became a crucial component of the defense. Over his two-year stretch with the team, Ivey has proven to be a versatile, athletic edge player who can align in various positions to create mismatches against offensive lines. Standing at 6-foot-6, Ivey’s length is evident, and he uses it effectively along with his athleticism to make plays in both the run game and as a pass rusher.

Against the run as an edge defender, Ivey has quick, active hands that he shoots to extend and lock out offensive linemen, setting a strong edge for the defense. His length allows him to reach offensive linemen first, giving him control of the engagement and preventing them from getting ideal hand placement. Ivey’s lateral agility also helps him move effectively along the line of scrimmage, making it difficult for offensive linemen to reach-block him. When Ivey lines up as an interior defensive lineman, he uses his quickness to exploit gaps, especially in Ole Miss' twist and stunt schemes, which allow the defensive line to attack upfield—an area in which Ivey excels. He is a fluid mover who can quickly penetrate gaps at the snap and has the body control to redirect and adjust to the play’s flow. His length also gives him a wide tackling range, allowing him to make contact with ball-carriers and disrupt plays.

As a pass rusher, Ivey combines length, athleticism, and active hands to make impactful plays. At the snap, he uses his quickness to get upfield and then engages in hand combat with offensive linemen. Ivey has showcased a wide array of hand techniques to win around the edge or counter by switching from an outside to an inside track. His arm length enables him to create chaos in the pocket, swiping at the quarterback and the football. When Ivey moves inside, he uses his speed to attack gaps and work to collapse the pocket. He also performs well on twists and stunts, coordinating effectively with his teammates and accelerating upfield off these moves.

Ivey has areas for improvement in both the run game and as a pass rusher. In the run game, he occasionally plays too high, which exposes his chest plate to offensive linemen and makes it difficult for him to disengage from blocks. Offensive linemen are sometimes able to displace him off the line of scrimmage and execute effective blocks. As a pass rusher, Ivey appears to have some lower-body tightness, which affects how quickly he can shift from outside to inside counters and cross the face of the offensive linemen.

Overall, Ivey possesses traits and tools that give him the potential to develop into an impactful edge rusher in the NFL.
