Film Analysis:

Jaeden Roberts is a fourth-year player for the Alabama program who has carved out a role for himself as an interior offensive lineman for Alabama. 2023 was Roberts’ first year being a consistent starter and he helped lead the way for the Alabama run game—a key element for the team making a semi-final playoff run in 2023. Roberts has a large, filled-out frame, showcasing a thick lower half that serves as his base for power and a powerful upper body. This size serves as a key foundational piece of Roberts' success as an offensive lineman. Roberts has the overall size to be able to play both guard and tackle in the NFL.

As a run blocker, Roberts shows to have good initial first-step quickness at the snap and does a good job of making initial contact with defenders. Because of Roberts' size combined with his power, he can generate movement along the line of scrimmage at the snap. When Roberts has proper hand placement and is playing with good pad leverage, he can drive block defenders off of the line of scrimmage in power/gap schemes. When working duo blocks, Roberts has the athletic ability to work to the second level of defenses and make contact with second-level defenders.

In pass protection, Robert utilizes his length and overall size to cause problems for defenders attempting to get to the quarterback. Roberts has above-average size for an interior offensive lineman and he utilizes this size to force defenders around him when rushing the passer. Roberts uses his length to make initial contact with defenders and slow down their pass rush. There are also moments where defenders will try to use a power bull rush to win and Roberts can simply anchor down because of his size and strength and prevent them from continuing to rush using power.

Roberts' main improvement needed as a player has to deal with his balance and body control, which ties to a lack of technique and consistency that shows up in both the run game and in pass protection. In pass protection, Roberts will lunge at defenders to make initial contact, which leads to him consistently being off-balance and ultimately losing the rep. Roberts also plays high, which limits his ability to redirect and handle counter-moves from defenders. In the run game, Roberts can play over-aggressive at times and will over-extend himself, making him ineffective at blocking and easily sheddable by defenders. Roberts loses his power by being over-extended which also affects his ability to change direction and his overall range as a run blocker.

Roberts has the ideal overall size and length. With improvements to his approach and technique, he could develop into a reliable contributor in an offensive line rotation.
