Film Analysis:
Nick Gallo is a primary Y tight end who represents a further extension of the line of scrimmage with strong hands in the shallow areas. He returns in 2024 after missing the entirety of the 2023 season.
Gallo showcases best as a run blocker aligned next to the offensive tackle (Y). Plays a physical brand of football in his approach within the trenches and is often asked to seal edge rushers and climb to wall-off linebackers. Plays with good leverage behind a strong lower half that allows Gallo to sink and drive his opponents. His hands are good but his placement can use fine-tuning to keep defenders in front. He currently projects as a primary Y tight end due to his willingness and technique in-line.
In space, Gallo lives within the shallow areas of the Hokies’ offense (4.4 average depth of target). He’s a primary zone beater who understands soft spots (North Carolina). Athleticism remains limited—which will ultimately limit his projection moving forward—but Gallo displays strong hands, physicality, and the occasional ability to make defenders miss in space. He is a build-up-speed type of runner who displays minimal explosive at the snap and out of his breaks. He high-points the football well and does a nice job of hauling in passes away from his frame.
Overall, Gallo projects as a primary run-blocking TE whose experience and physicality will serve the Virginia Tech offense well as he works back to full strength.
