Film Analysis:
Javontez Spraggins is a high-floor interior lineman with 36 starts over his career at Tennessee. Standing at 6-foot-3, Spraggins turns what would be a disadvantage (his size) into a focal point of his game. With such a natural center of gravity, he’s able to constantly play with a leverage advantage. This is especially useful in the run game.
Spraggins is a physical player. He attacks defenders with tenacity, but more importantly, with technique too. He possesses quick and heavy hands and has the baseline athletic ability to get movement at the line of scrimmage.
Running an RPO-heavy offense, Spraggins displayed an innate ability to play effectively in close quarters. Spraggins could have fewer limitations in the run game in a pro-style offense. Spraggins is also proficient in gap schemes, both as a puller and as a playside blocker.
In the passing game, Spraggins, with his smaller size, faces more challenges against bigger defenders. To counteract this, Spraggins oftentimes uses a jump set to get hands on defenders early to take the air out of their rush. With his hands being one of his more obvious strong suits, Spraggins clearly understands how to play to his advantages.
Spraggins is a high-floor football player who’ll most likely be a day-one contender for a starting job in the NFL. Despite his size, expect Spraggins to be a serviceable professional football player.
