App State linebacker Andrew Parker enjoyed a terrific 2023 campaign after transferring to the program from Arkansas. Parker totaled a team-high 114 tackles this past season. He then tested outstandingly at Pro Day, leaping a 10-foot-4 broad jump, and a 38.5 inch vertical.
Parker recently spoke exclusively with The Draft Network about his decision to enter the transfer portal, the numbers he posted at Pro Day, which teams are showing interest in his services, and more.
JM: Now that you've had time to reflect, how do you look back on the decision to transfer from Arkansas to App State?
Andrew Parker: It was a good move for me. I had definitely enjoyed my time at Arkansas. I graduated with my degree. I was ready for a new challenge. Going to App State was the right decision for me in the long run.
JM: You had an outstanding season in 2023, totaling a team-high 114 tackles at App State. What is it about your skill set that allows you to make so many plays on the ball?
Andrew Parker: I would credit my study habits first and foremost. I developed terrific instincts from studying the game. I started seeing plays develop before the ball was even snapped. I identify formations and alignments. I let my instincts take over at that point.
JM: You do a great job of that on tape. You put forth an awesome performance at Pro Day. I spoke to one scout that timed your 40 at 4.58 seconds. Have you noticed you're receiving more attention from NFL scouts since then?
Andrew Parker: Yes sir, I definitely have. I’ve been receiving a lot more attention from scouts since then Pro Day. They were very impressed with my workout. I also leaped a 10-foot-4 broad jump and a 38.5-inch vertical. I ran a 4.26 shuttle and 6.9s L-drill.
JM: Those are some great numbers. Have you met with any NFL teams throughout the process, either in person or virtually?
Andrew Parker: I’ve met with quite a few teams. I was at the Saints’ local pro day. I’ve also spoken with the 49ers, Chargers, Eagles, Titans, and Browns. I’ve spoken with several teams.
JM: There’s a lot of interest in you and it’s easy to see why. We've appreciated your time today. Why should a team use one of their draft picks on Andrew Parker?
Andrew Parker: A team should use a draft pick on Andrew Parker because I made it my mission to check off all the boxes throughout this pre-draft process. I went out there and showed that I was a great player on the field. I played against good competition at Arkansas and App State.
I was a leader both on and off the field. When it comes to the testing, I displayed outstanding athleticism at pro day. You’re going to get a guy that’s going to dominate the process. I love getting better. I enjoy the process.
A lot of guys say they love football. They don’t. I really live this game. This game is my life. I want to play it professionally for as long as I can. Whatever team gets me is going to get a guy that’s devoted to the process.
