Arkansas cornerback Dwight McGlothern ran a 4.47 at the NFL Combine. A ball-hawk who transferred to the program from LSU, McGlothern recorded seven interceptions across his final two seasons of college football. McGlothern led the Razorbacks in that category for two straight years.

McGlothern recently spoke exclusively with The Draft Network about his decision to enter the portal, what parts of his game allowed him to total seven interceptions in two seasons, playing in the SEC, which NFL team is showing a bunch of interest in his services, and more.

JM: What a big decision that was going from LSU to Arkansas in the transfer portal. Was staying in the SEC a priority for you?

Dwight McGlothern: Yes sir, it was. I always wanted to play college football in the SEC conference. I was not about to abandon that dream just because I decided to enter the portal. I grew up wanting to play against the best competition.

I knew I made the right decision when I arrived at LSU. The SEC was obviously the best conference in college ball. You have to be locked in on your opponent every single week. You need to stay dialed in.

Everything is a challenge. Defeating blocks is a challenge. Covering your man is a challenge. Everybody is talented. You’re going to become a more complete player by playing in the SEC.

JM: I love that. You're a ball-hawk. You led Arkansas in interceptions in both of your seasons there, totaling seven picks. What is it about your game that allows you to get your hands on the ball so often?

Dwight McGlothern: I understand route concepts. I’m very good at diagnosing offenses pre-snap. I also played some wide receiver growing up. I know what receivers like to do because I have those tendencies in my background.

I had some good experience under my belt after my first two seasons at LSU. That ball production was destined to happen for me because I put the work in. I feel like I would have put up the same numbers if I stayed at LSU.

JM: Because you have such great instincts, is Cover 3 your best fit at the next level?

Dwight McGlothern: I love Cover 3, but I also love Cover 4 and Cover 1. I love playing man coverage as well. Playing in Cover 3 and Cover 4, those are probably the coverage schemes that allowed me to get my hands on the ball.

Those schemes are good fits for me based on my production. I think man coverage is a good fit for me as well even though it leads to fewer interceptions. I believe I’m a press-man cornerback if you need me to be.

Most of my interceptions occurred because I already knew what was coming.

JM: I want to put you in a fun scenario because you are versatile enough to play man and zone. Say it's 3rd-and-long with the game on the line. Would you rather be manned up on the opposing team's best receiver, or playing zone with a chance to make a play on the ball near the sticks?

Dwight McGlothern: That’s a fun scenario. If it’s 3rd-and-long, I want to say man coverage, but I’d probably say zone coverage at the end of the day. Zone gives me a little leverage to jump the route. I’m going to communicate with my secondary teammates and try to create a turnover.

JM: I saw the internal battle going on in your head there. I feel like the competitor in you wanted to say man, but you knew zone was a smarter choice (laughs).

Dwight McGlothern: Yeah, you got me (laughs). That’s most definitely what happened. I’ve been in those situations so many times. Sometimes your defensive coordinator is going to call man coverage and trust you to lock your man down.

JM: Have you met with any teams throughout the pre-draft process, whether in person or virtually?

Dwight McGlothern: I met with the Cincinnati Bengals’ cornerbacks coach after my Pro Day. That was pretty cool. The Bengals sounded very interested in me. We’ll see what happens. I’m just sorting through my schedule as we speak. I’ll be taking some visits as well.

JM: We've appreciated your time today. What kind of impact is Dwight McGlothern going to make at the next level?

Dwight McGlothern: I’m going to continue getting my hands on the ball. The ball skills are going to translate to the next level. I’m going to have a lot of fun in the NFL. My main goal is to win a Super Bowl.
