The 2024 Senior Bowl will provide an opportunity for NFL draft prospects to prove themselves on the largest pre-draft stage. Stanford kicker Joshua Karty plans on taking full advantage. Karty recently spoke exclusively with the Senior Bowl and Draft Network to discuss his motivation for accepting his invitation to compete in Mobile, Alabama.

Karty also discussed his reaction to receiving a Senior Bowl invite, what he's striving to prove to NFL general managers and scouts in attendance, and more. Let's get to know Karty better ahead of his journey to the Senior Bowl.

JM: Where were you when you found out about your Senior Bowl invite and what was your initial reaction?

Joshua Karty: My head coach at Stanford Troy Taylor invited me to his office. He presented me with the Reese’s Senior Bowl box upon my arrival. It came with a cool hat and everything (laughs). It was awesome to receive that invite to this year’s Senior Bowl. I was very excited. I’m thrilled to be acknowledged as one of the best seniors in the nation.

JM: You were a priority invite. What motivated you to accept the Senior Bowl’s offer?

Joshua Karty: I was choosing between the Senior Bowl and returning to Stanford for another season. I still had a year of eligibility had I decided to return to school. When I decided to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft, making the Senior Bowl a part of my pre-draft process was a no-brainer.

My agent Doug Hendrickson and the amazing staff at Wasserman helped me navigate the decision-making process. The best of the best are going to be competing at the Senior Bowl. I wanted to participate in something like that. I wanted to go somewhere where I could showcase my talent in front of NFL scouts and decision-makers. It was an easy decision.

JM: What are you hoping to prove to NFL general managers, coaching staffs, and scouts in attendance in Mobile?

Joshua Karty: I have an underdog, chip-on-my-shoulder type of mentality. I generally feel that way. We didn’t play very good football at Stanford these past few years. We didn’t have the success we wanted to have these past three years. I’m the only Stanford player who declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.

I have that chip on my shoulder. We haven’t gotten much attention at Stanford as of late because we collectively didn’t win enough games. We all own the blame for that. We haven’t been a high-caliber program lately. I have something to prove at the Senior Bowl. I want to prove that I’m the best kicker in the draft.

JM: How would you describe your skill set in your own words? Self-scout yourself.

Joshua Karty: I have the leg power to match any kicker in the 2024 NFL Draft. I match that power with consistent technique. I’m a fundamentally sound kicker. That’s led to a lot of consistency for me. It’s helped me produce consistent outputs.

JM: This has been outstanding. At the end of the week, what does a successful Senior Bowl look like for Joshua Karty?

Joshua Karty: That’s a great question. It means I made every kick and extra point throughout practices and the game itself. I want to capitalize on every opportunity that comes my way. In the charting periods, I want to be consistent throughout those drills.

Even if I don’t go perfectly, a successful Senior Bowl week means I showed the scouts what I have to offer, which is deep and high kickoffs, and a great make percentage in field goal drills. A successful week means I turned heads. I’m going to show the scouts everything in my toolbelt.
