Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan is among the best linemen in the country. Morgan is currently thriving at left tackle as one of college football’s elite blindside protectors. Physicality and aggression are Morgan's calling cards.

The No. 33 overall player in our latest TDN100 update, Morgan spoke exclusively with The Draft Network about Arizona’s impressive start while previewing their critical upcoming matchup versus Oregon State. Morgan also discussed last weekend’s dominant win over Washington State, a triple-overtime defeat to USC, and more.

JM: That was a dominant 44-6 victory over a quality Washington State opponent.  What’s the atmosphere like heading into this bye week on the back of such a big win?

Jordan Morgan: Everybody in the locker room loved that win. We worked so hard to reach this point in the season. The atmosphere was great going into the bye week. It was amazing to enter that week on a high. It made the entire team even hungrier to finish this season strong. It made everyone want to work even harder.

JM: You’re getting ready for a big Pac-12 showdown with Oregon State. How are you preparing for that matchup?

Jordan Morgan: We’re going to prepare exactly like we did for the Washington State game. We’re going to practice and play hard. We’re approaching the week with a terrific amount of focus. We’re basically going to control what we can control. We want to pick up another victory.

JM: You’re from Marana, Arizona and choose to play locally despite receiving offers from other programs. What’s it meant to represent your hometown team?

Jordan Morgan: It’s meant so much to me. Me being able to play here at Arizona gives my family an opportunity to attend my home games without having to jump on a plane. They’re watching me live and in person without having to travel. It means so much to me. I was born and raised here in Arizona. I have so many family and friends who are local to this community. I have a big following.

JM: You’re thriving as one of the best left tackles in the country right now. Which areas of your game have grown the most from last season to this year?

Jordan Morgan: Patience and technique. Coming off an injury, it taught me how to be a lot more patient. I had to spend more time focusing on my technique. That’s allowed me to maneuver the way I am now, and it allows me to do what I do best.

JM: How does playing in this offense help prepare you for the next level?

Jordan Morgan: It helps me a lot. Coach Jedd Fisch runs a pro-style offense. We’re running a very similar offense to the NFL. We’ve adapted to a pro-style system. I’m expecting to acclimate and adapt in a quicker fashion one day. Playing in this offense will allow me to transfer my overall knowledge of the game to the NFL.

JM: You have terrific size for the position at approximately 6-foot-5 and 312 pounds. How do you utilize size and power to your advantage on a snap-by-snap basis?

Jordan Morgan: When you watch left tackles, or tackles in general in college football, they’re typically around 6-foot-7, maybe 6-foot-8. They say I’m a little bit shorter than the bigger tackles. I use strength to my advantage. I can reach out, latch onto a defender, and hold him in place. I can mimic defenders and pass rushers. It’s easier for me at my size. I’m light on my feet. It’s easy for me to mirror a pass rusher.

JM: We really appreciate your willingness to finish on film, especially in the run game. How did you develop that aggressive mentality as a finisher?

Jordan Morgan: Since high school, I’ve been told that going into college, people love to see you finish and play through the whistle. You can’t be dirty, but you want to finish and compete. You have to finish blocks through the whistle. I started to place more emphasis on that heading into college. You want to identify yourself with toughness as an offensive lineman.

JM: What do you love about blocking in the run game? Linemen always prefer the run game to pass protection.

Jordan Morgan: Personally, I love a wide-zone run. Running zone at a defender gives you an opportunity to catch him off guard. You’re running at them while they’re trying to keep contain or execute their run fit. It’s a lot easier for you. You get a lot of momentum running at them. It’s a lot of fun to me. You get to really blow them off the line.

JM: You also have terrific length and punch placement. Talk to me about using those traits against pass rushers on a weekly basis.

Jordan Morgan: It all comes back to my patience. I like to sit and read what the defender is doing. I usually like to get at them before they make their first move. They might one-two and make a move. I try to use my length and put my hands in the right place. If I’m a step-and-a-half early, I try to get there before they take a step in the other direction. That length advantage comes in handy.

JM: That was a difficult loss in triple overtime to USC a few weeks ago. What did you see from Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams?

Jordan Morgan: I’ve always been impressed with how calm he is. He’s always calm. He never panics. I’ve noticed that even when watching them on TV. He doesn’t have any worries. He doesn’t rush his guys to the line of scrimmage. He’s always calm with whatever the situation is. Whining or losing, he stays focused until the final snap.

JM: No doubt. We’re excited to continue monitoring your progress. I’ve appreciated your time. In closing, what are Jordan Morgan’s goals for the remainder of the 2023 campaign?

Jordan Morgan: I want to continue playing like one of the best left tackles in the nation. I’m getting back to being a very dominant player. I’ve bounced back 100% from the injury. I’m the dominant force people see me to be.
