Caleb Douglas Scouting Report

Caleb Douglas is a tall, fluid-moving receiver who has a great catch radius and can be targeted on all three levels of the field.

Draft Grade: Round 3 - Adequate Starter

Strengths:

Catch Radius/Length: Douglas has great overall length, which directly translates to an impressive catch radius. His catch radius allows quarterbacks to place the ball in his area with confidence, as he has a strong chance to come down with it.

Fluid Movements: Despite being a tall receiver prospect, Douglas shows good fluidity from his releases through his ability to sink his hips and run effective routes. He is a smooth mover in space.

Alignment Versatility: Douglas possesses a unique combination of height and fluid movement that makes him a versatile piece in an NFL offense. He can line up as an X receiver and win on the outside or shift into the slot as a big slot target, presenting a large target across the middle of the field.

Red-Zone Threat: In the red zone, Douglas can be utilized as a reliable target. Whether running slot fades and using his height and jumping ability to high-point the ball over defenders, or running in-breaking routes and forcing defenders to work through his frame to contest catches, Douglas is a viable red-zone threat and should be part of an offense’s red-zone game plan.

Concerns:

Top-End Speed: Douglas appears to lack the overall top-end speed to consistently separate vertically. On vertical routes, defenders are often able to stay in phase with him and maintain an opportunity to make a play on the football.

Press-Man: Douglas has a tall, lean frame that gives defensive backs ample contact area to disrupt his releases. He could benefit from added strength and a greater ability to power through physical press-man situations.
