Brandon Cisse Scouting Report
Brandon Cisse is an explosive athlete who plays with physicality on the perimeter to be disruptive both in pass coverage and as a run defender.
Draft Grade: Round 2 - Winning Starter
Strengths:
Explosive Athlete: Cisse proves to be an explosive athlete, particularly in his change of direction. When playing off-coverage and driving downhill toward the receiver, he displays explosive transition and plant-and-drive capabilities, allowing him to close quickly and break up passes. His lower-body power—highlighted by his 41-inch vertical—translates directly to his burst on the field.
Run Defense: Cisse plays the run with the mentality of a safety. When positioned on the perimeter, he is a willing fighter who works to shed blockers before stepping up to make the tackle. When coming from depth based on specific formations, he rapidly triggers downhill, showing the ability to break down in space and execute effective tackles on the ball carrier.
Physicality: At the cornerback position, Cisse prefers to use his physicality at the line of scrimmage to be disruptive. He looks to get his hands on the receiver immediately to disrupt their release and timing. On film, this physicality is evident; receivers often spend the first few steps of their route attempting to regain their balance, effectively eliminating them as immediate targets for the quarterback.
Concerns:
Ball Tracking: Although Cisse often appears to be in phase with a receiver down the field, he occasionally lacks the spatial awareness to turn his head and locate the football. This leads to situations where receivers make the catch despite tight coverage, or Cisse inadvertently initiates contact because he is playing the man rather than the ball. At the NFL level, this lack of awareness will frequently result in DPIs.
Holding/Grabbing: A significant part of Cisse’s effectiveness stems from his early physicality, but he often walks a fine line between legal disruption and defensive holding. While his aggressive jam is effective in college, he tends to stay connected to the receiver too long through the break point. In the NFL, where officials are much stricter regarding contact beyond five yards, Cisse will face a steep adjustment period to ensure his physicality doesn't result in consistent flags.
