3 Teams Benefiting Most From NFL Salary Cap Increase

The NFL informed clubs over the weekend that they are projecting the 2026 salary cap to land somewhere between $301.2 million and $305.7 million per organization, multiple national reports confirmed. That would represent another significant jump from this year’s $279.2 million cap number. For additional context, it's approximately $100 million more than the $208.2 million cap in 2022, per Tom Pelissero.

That's outstanding news for pending free agents. A higher salary cap means fewer frugal teams when entering negotiations in free agency. We've identified three teams in particular that will benefit from the salary cap increase.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans were always slated to possess a league-leading amount of cap space. The recent update now projects the Titans to surpass $104 million in financial flexibility, according to Over The Cap, which is predicting a $305.5 million cap. That's before general manager Mike Borgonzi creates additional space by potentially parting ways with overpriced veterans L'Jarius Sneed and Calvin Ridley.

The Titans have a new head coach in Robert Saleh. Cam Ward is expected to show significant growth as a sophomore under new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. The Titans could be aggressive spenders in free agency as they attempt to surround Ward with talent.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks will play the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX on Sunday. They'll then lose offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who agreed to become the Las Vegas Raiders' next head coach. Mike Macdonald will be tasked with hiring his third offensive coordinator in as many seasons. Those are the challenges defensive-minded head coaches sometimes face.

What's going to help Macdonald and general manager John Schneider navigate Kubiak's departure is a strong roster with enough offseason flexibility to improve. The Seahawks are now projected to possess $73.2 million in cap space, sixth-most in the NFL. Another run to the 2027 Super Bowl feels within the realm of potential outcomes.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers endured a disappointing 2025 season. They finished 9-7-1 and were eliminated in the wild-card round by their rival Chicago Bears. Despite that, general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur signed multi-year contract extensions earlier this offseason.

The Packers do not possess a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft as a result of their Micah Parsons blockbuster. According to the new salary cap projections, Gutekunst is slated to be just $1.4 million over the cap. That's a positive development for a franchise that was initially believed to be significantly over the limit. The offseason challenge just got easier to navigate.
