South Florida quarterback Byrum Brown has announced his intention to enter the transfer portal. The four-year playmaker immediately becomes one of the most exciting signal-callers available. Brown was electric for the Bulls this past season, throwing for 3,158 yards, 28 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. The dual-threat quarterback added 1,008 rushing yards and 14 additional TDs to his offensive totals.

It was an appropriate bounce-back campaign after his 2024 season was limited due to a season-ending broken leg. Brown threw for 26 touchdowns and a career-high 3,292 yards throughout 2023. Brown now enters the portal after USF head coach Alex Golesh departed the program for the Auburn head coaching job.

Brown possesses a ton of natural ability. He’ll enter the portal with one year of remaining eligibility and with the intention of leaving the AAC behind for a bigger program. We've identified three potential landing spots for Brown via the portal.

Auburn

Auburn immediately becomes the most logical landing spot. Golesh coached Brown for the previous three seasons (2023-25) at South Florida. Across that time, Brown completed 580-of-899 passing attempts (64.5%) for 7,286 yards, 56 passing touchdowns, 18 interceptions, 2,086 rushing yards, and 28 rushing TDs.

Auburn’s quarterback room is currently in flux. Ashton Daniels and Jackson Arnold are both expected to depart the program via portal this offseason following Golesh's arrival. With Auburn likely finding itself in the market for a new starting quarterback, reuniting Golesh with Brown makes so much sense.

Miami

Miami won its first College Football Playoff game, outlasting Texas A&M 10-3. The Hurricanes will now face the No. 2 seed Ohio State Buckeyes, who possessed a first-round bye. Whenever the Hurricanes' campaign officially ends, attention will shift to who Mario Cristobal's next starting quarterback will be.

Current starter Carson Beck will be entering the 2026 NFL Draft. Miami will almost certainly continue its tradition of finding its next quarterback via the transfer portal. Cristobal and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson have designed a scheme that succeeds in its intention to elevate college quarterbacks. Brown would be a great fit.

Florida

Florida recently hired Jon Sumrall as their new head coach to officially succeed the failed Billy Napier experiment. Florida’s incoming coach is incredibly familiar with Brown's dual-threat ability. After all, they are former American Athletic Conference rivals.

Sumrall's defense held Brown in check during their previous meeting, with Tulane embarrassing USF 45-10. Brown was limited to 134 passing yards and -12 rushing. The Gators are searching for Sumrall's first quarterback after DJ Lagway made the decision to enter the portal himself. Landing Brown through the portal would get the Sumrall era off to an exciting start.
