With players chasing more fortuitous surroundings, an increased level of NIL opportunities, or simply a fresh start, the transfer portal continues to deliver storylines that will remain headlines as we steamroll toward the CFP and into next fall.

Whether it’s a former highly rated recruit or a player who has exceeded expectations at a smaller program and is now in search of a larger spotlight, the range of athletes currently listed in the portal showcases a highly intriguing group for teams to pluck from. From electrifying playmakers to high-level defenders and an uber-talented signal-caller, the following is a list of athletes that have the potential to alter not only their futures but also the fortunes of the programs that land them.

QB Fernando Mendoza (Cal transfer)

Mendoza should earn an opportunity at a big-time program. While Cal has produced its fair share of NFL talent under center over the years (Aaron Rodgers/Jared Goff), the new landscape of the portal has Mendoza on the move in search of a larger spotlight.

One of the country’s most underrated passers in 2024, Mendoza’s tape, at times, was sensational to watch. He consistently displayed the zip and touch to target all levels of the field, along with his ability to make plays outside of structure. A former three-star recruit out of the hotbed that is the state of Florida, Mendoza could be a name we talk about this time next year for the 2026 NFL Draft should he land in the correct spot, and continue to evolve at the position.

WR Micah Hudson (Texas Tech transfer)

Texas Tech’s highest-rated recruit ever (five-star), Hudson is expected to be one of the most sought-after wideouts in the portal. Why Hudson had such limited volume (13 total targets in seven games) and involvement within the Red Raiders’ offense remains a mystery, but the talent drips off of his 6-foot, 200-pound frame.

A native of Temple, Texas, early reports suggest Hudson could prioritize staying in his home state to sign with either the Aggies or Longhorns.

DB Tacario Davis (Arizona transfer)

It wasn’t too long ago that Davis was talked about as one of the premier corners in the 2025 NFL Draft. Well, things change quickly in today’s landscape and the 6-foot-4 Davis is now in search of what likely will be his final collegiate home after three years spent in the desert.

A long, wiry, angular corner who plays with a constantly hot motor, Davis looks the part of a future NFL contributor and will quickly improve whichever secondary he lands in inside the Power Four.

EDGE Williams Nwaneri (Missouri transfer)

The No. 2 edge player in the 2024 high school class, the 6-foot-7, uber-athletic Nwaneri could be the type of piece that puts a potential CFP title contender over the top. He’s long, powerful, a nightmare to counter in isolated situations, and is a ballplayer who projects as a versatile, inside-out piece for an NFL defense down the road. With the correct allocation of snaps, Nwaneri’s ceiling is as lofty as any defender in the country.

WR Eric Singleton Jr. (Georgia Tech transfer)

One of the premier names in the portal this cycle, Singleton’s inside-out versatility, coupled with his explosiveness, paints the picture of a player who projects as an immediate contributor wherever he lands. In his first two seasons at Georgia Tech, Singleton amassed more than 1,400 receiving yards and nine touchdowns with 27 explosive plays (15-plus yards).

OT Isaiah World (Nevada Transfer)

World has come a long way since giving up 11 sacks as a redshirt freshman three years ago. 2025 will represent World’s fifth season in college football, but the 6-foot-8, fluid mover at tackle is expected to have interest from many of the country’s blue-blood programs.

In 2024, World didn’t allow a single sack in 456 pass pro snaps and is a player who has remained a talking point of scouts due to his movement skills and lower-half flexibility at a verified 6-foot-8, 307 pounds.
