Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman announced his intention to enter the transfer portal earlier this week. A redshirt sophomore, Weigman has two remaining years of eligibility. The former blue-chip recruit failed to meet expectations at Texas A&M. He went 9-4 in 13 career starts at Texas A&M, constantly battling injuries and inconsistent play.

Weigman should garner consideration from various blue-blood programs in the portal as an intriguing reclamation project with untapped potential. The young signal-caller has thrown for 2,694 yards and 19 touchdowns in 15 career appearances. Weigman will begin weighing his options immediately. We've identified three potential landing spots for the quarterback via the portal.

Iowa

The Iowa Hawkeyes were competent quarterback play away from fielding an efficient offense. Superstar running back Kaleb Johnson rushed for 1,537 yards and has possibly positioned himself as a first-round pick in April’s 2025 NFL Draft. Pass-catching weapons like Jacob Gill and Luke Lachley flashed upside that wasn't taken total advantage of by struggling starting QB Cade McNamara. Three signal-callers took snaps for Iowa in 2024, and they threw nine touchdowns versus seven interceptions.

Iowa even finished below programs like Navy in passing yardage this season. Entering the portal for a big-name quarterback is a necessity in an improving Big Ten conference. Given that some of the other required offensive pieces are already in place, Iowa should make a sizable financial offer to Weigman.

Auburn

Auburn strung together a regular-season record of 5-7 in Hugh Freeze's second campaign in charge. The Tigers were once finalists for Weigman as a high-school recruit and they're expected to reiterate their interest in his services. Starting quarterback Payton Thorne enjoyed a career-best season in 2024 and he'll be moving on from the program, influencing Freeze to enter the portal to search for his replacement.

The Tigers are closer to competing in the SEC than their record indicates. Freeze has appointed an impressive list of offensive and defensive assistants, including a pair of first-year coordinators. Landing an above-average quarterback like Weigman in the portal could really help the program reach the next step in their rebuilding plan. A deep and talented class of pass catchers are awaiting the arrival of a QB capable of elevating the offense.

Wisconsin

Wisconsin could enter the portal in search of a starting-caliber QB given the uncertainty they'll face at the position this offseason. Starting quarterback Braedyn Locke struggled, completing just 55.4% of his passing attempts en route to a 13:10 TD-to-INT ratio. Alternative option Tyler Van Dyke suffered a season-ending ACL injury in mid-September. A lengthy road to recovery complicates his 2025 season outlook.

The Badgers' latest two starting quarterbacks—Tanner Mordecai and Van Dyke—joined the program via the portal. Head coach Luke Fickell is a strong figure and an excellent recruiter. Fickell is searching for a new offensive coordinator after dismissing Air Raid specialist Phil Longo earlier this season. Whoever is appointed will have a drastic impact on next year's quarterback. Weigman is an intriguing option.
