3 Teams That Should Trade For Khalil Herbert

Chicago Bears veteran running back Khalil Herbert has been a healthy scratch recently and hasn't received a carry since Week 3. He's a prime candidate to be moved before Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, according to various reports.

D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson are dominating the available touches in Matt Eberflus' backfield. Herbert is a proven runner on an affordable expiring contract that could garner interest from RB-needy teams. Bears general manager Ryan Poles should be willing to accept any form of draft capital in exchange for a depreciating asset.

We've identified three potential landing spots via trade.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have a mess in the backfield. Ezekiel Elliott was a healthy scratch for Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons due to habitual tardiness, according to a report from Jane Slater. Fellow aging back Dalvin Cook was up from the practice squad as a result but delivered just eight rushing yards via two carries.

Elliott and Cook are non-factors for a 31st-ranked rushing offense averaging an ineffective 82.0 ground yards per outing. The Cowboys made a massive error by allowing the running back position to go unaddressed in the offseason. Quickly falling out of the postseason picture, the Cowboys have enough time to recover, but it would require a swift turnaround. Herbert would immediately provide the offense with a much-needed jolt of energy.

Cincinnati Bengals

After beginning the campaign a surprising 1-4, the Cincinnati Bengals have rounded off wins in three of their last four contests to bring their record to a competitive 4-5. The Bengals remain multiple victories behind the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North, but they're one win out of a wildcard spot. Zac Taylor and Co. aren't calling quits on qualifying for the postseason.

Zack Moss missed Sunday's victory with an injury. Moss hasn't lived up to expectations after joining the organization in the offseason via free agency. Chase Brown was outstanding, rushing for 120 yards on 27 carries, but is best utilized as a change-of-pace playmaker. Herbert and Brown would form an effective tandem as the Bengals prepare for a postseason push.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders made sweeping changes to the offensive coaching staff after dropping to an NFL-worst 2-7 on Sunday. Head coach Antonio Pierce responded by relieving three assistant coaches of their duties. Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, offensive line coach James Cregg, and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello have been let go by the franchise.

Vegas' nonexistent run game is now averaging a league-worst 76.9 rushing yards per contest. The trio of Alexander Mattison, Ameer Abdullah, and Zamir White rushed for a combined 58 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in Sunday's loss to the Bengals. The Raiders' season-long average of 3.5 yards per carry is also a league-worst mark.

The Raiders shouldn't be buyers at the deadline, but they are searching for long-term solutions on offense. Acquiring Herbert would allow them an evaluation period to see if he's worth re-signing in the offseason.
