3 Teams That Should Trade For Azeez Ojulari

The New York Giants were defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football, dropping their record to 2-6. The latest disappointment should ensure general manager Joe Schoen is a seller at Tuesday's NFL trade deadline. Schoen requires draft capital to continue retooling the roster this offseason.

Fourth-year outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari has been a bright spot in another wasted campaign. The former Georgia standout leads all Giants EDGE defenders in sacks with six quarterback takedowns. The problem? The team is committed to Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux as their long-term starters at the position.

Ojulari is performing on an expiring contract, and given the depth chart, he's unlikely to return to the Giants in 2025. Schoen should trade Ojulari before Tuesday's deadline. We've identified three potential landing spots.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are still figuring out life post-Aidan Hutchinson. A shoo-in for Defensive Player of the Year before suffering a gruesome season-ending injury, Hutchinson’s efforts are going to be immensely missed by Dan Campbell and Co. The Lions embarrassed the Tennessee Titans 52-14 on Sunday, but they only sacked backup quarterback Mason Rudolph once. The pass rush was unimpressive all afternoon long.

Ojulari would immediately be the Lions' active sack leader. The Lions are currently overly reliant on average pass rushers like James Houston IV, Al-Quadin Muhammad, and Isaiah Thomas. Lions GM Brad Holmes seemingly doesn't want to inherit a big contract via the trade market. Ojulari would be the perfect midseason rental for the one-seed Lions' Super Bowl push.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens signaled their aggressive intentions by acquiring wide receiver Diontae Johnson from the Carolina Panthers earlier this week. GM Eric DeCosta only parted with a late-round pick swap to get Johnson, meaning there's additional wiggle room for more moves. If DeCosta makes another trade, it'll almost certainly be to help a defense that's currently allowing a 25th-ranked 361.3 yards per game.

Ojulari would strengthen a strength for a Ravens defense that's totaled 24 sacks to date. Ojulari would be an outstanding complement to Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh, who have been impressive and productive this season. A struggling secondary appreciates every pass-rushing effort from the front seven.

San Francisco 49ers

The 4-4 San Francisco 49ers find themselves in a three-way tie for the NFC West division lead with the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks. The Los Angeles Rams aren't far behind at 3-4. The 49ers haven't quite hit their stride yet, but with superstar running back Christian McCaffrey primed to return shortly, Kyle Shanahan's team should begin rounding into form as they get healthier.

The 49ers brought in a couple of pass rushers down the stretch last season, including Chase Young and Sebastian Joseph-Day. General manager John Lynch believes in improving his pass rush as his squad gears up for another postseason run. The 49ers don't have enough depth behind Nick Bosa. Leonard Floyd has been largely unimpressive, and Ojulari could step into the starting lineup immediately.
