Film Analysis:

Tacario Davis is a true junior prospect who burst onto the scene in 2023 as one of the most talented cornerback prospects in college football. Davis is an instinctual corner who utilizes his 6-foot-4 frame to disrupt receivers in all phases of the game, showing to be an impactful defender on the perimeter of the defense.

Davis' best reps as a defender come with him in zone coverage. In zone coverage, Davis has multiple alignments and techniques. He can play press, bail, or off-coverage to mix up looks and present a different issue for both the quarterback and receiver. In press situations where Davis is tight to the line of scrimmage, he utilizes his arm length and throws quick punches to knock the receiver off of their path and disrupt the timing of their releases. After this, Davis can jump into their pocket and has the opportunity to stay in phase with them throughout the route. Davis is a long strider who is most successful when receivers are running vertical routes where he can open up his stride and use arm length to keep him in position to make a play on the football. In off coverage. Davis has good foot quickness and can tempo his backpedal. At the right time, he can break downhill to break up passes in the short-to-intermediate areas of the field.

Davis’ most concerning reps as a corner are those when he is in man coverage. Because Davis is a long strider, he appears to struggle at times to stay in phase with quick-twitch, explosive receivers in and out of their breaks. Flipping his hips and changing direction, Davis instantly appears to be delayed at times. To attempt to stay in coverage, he will grab at the top of the route, which could result in holding penalties. It also appears that Davis has average vertical speed and receivers can create separation from Davis in the deeper portions of the field which can result in a big play.

Overall, Davis has the length and instincts to project to be a very productive zone corner in the NFL.
