We're guaranteed to have a new Heisman Trophy winner in 2024 after reigning champion quarterback Jayden Daniels was selected No. 2 overall by the Washington Commanders. The dual-threat Daniels accounted for 4,946 total yards of offense and 50 touchdowns for LSU last season. Those are the types of numbers that capture the Heisman.
Week 0 of the college football campaign is scheduled for Aug. 24. It’s time to look ahead to some never-too-early Heisman candidates. Several ascending talents are attempting to succeed Daniels while positively impacting their future outlook.
BetOnline’s futures prop betting landscape for the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner has taken shape. A tantalizing college football season awaits. The top 10 candidates shake out as follows:
Carson Beck (+850)
Quinn Ewers (+950)
Dillon Gabriel (+1100)
Jaxson Dart (+1200)
Jalen Milroe (+1400)
Nico Imaleava (+1600)
Will Howard (+1600)
Cam Ward (+2000)
Connor Weigman (+2200)
Garrett Nussmeier/Riley Leonard (+2200)
THE FAVORITE AND MY PICK: CARSON BECK
Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck is entering his second season as a full-time starter after playing sporadically for the program from 2020 to 2022. The former four-star prospect was extremely impressive throughout the 2023 campaign, throwing for nearly 4,000 yards and 24 touchdowns. Beck is expected to take another step forward in his development now that he has a full year of experience under his belt.
The analytics shine an even brighter light on Beck's 2023 performance. The Jacksonville, Florida native placed in the top five among all FBS quarterbacks in adjusted completion rate and average time to throw, per Pro Football Focus. Beck is an accurate quarterback who operates effectively in a rhythm-and-timing offense. If Georgia achieves their lofty goals, it's the signal caller that could take home the Heisman.
THE NO. 1 CONTENDER: QUINN EWERS
Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers decided to return to school for his senior season, foregoing an opportunity to enter the 2024 NFL Draft. It was a massive win for Texas, who can now begin life in the SEC with an experienced quarterback under center.
Texas is expecting big things from Ewers throughout 2024. He disappointingly failed to secure a top-10 finish in Heisman voting last season despite overseeing one of the more explosive offenses in the nation. Ewers concluded his campaign with 3,479 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions. An even bigger season appears on deck. There are plenty of weapons still in the fold despite losing Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell, and others to the 2024 draft.
DON’T FORGET ABOUT: DILLON GABRIEL
Dillon Gabriel announced his decision to transfer to Oregon in December after previously playing two seasons at Oklahoma and three at UCF. A well-traveled, experienced quarterback, Gabriel threw for 3,660 yards and 30 touchdowns for the Sooners last season. The dual-threat signal caller added 12 rushing touchdowns to his offensive totals.
Gabriel will play in a QB-friendly offense in 2024. Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein is entering his second as Dan Lanning’s play-caller. Last year, starting quarterback Bo Nix took advantage of the favorable surroundings to finish third in Heisman Trophy voting. Gabriel could similarly get himself into contention.
