Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 Offensive Line Breakdown

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a model of consistency in the NFL for a long time. In an era without a franchise QB or elite playmaking talent on the outside, building up a young and talented offensive line seems to be an important step in creating an environment ready to win long-term.

In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Steelers triple-dipped on rookie linemen, adding Washington's Troy Fautanu, West Virginia’s Zach Frazier, and South Dakota State's Mason McCormick. Adding this trio to last year's first-round pick, Broderick Jones, makes this one of the most youthful lines in the league. Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Steelers fans should be excited to see how this offensive line works together.

As for the returning players, Jones will likely start where he left off in 2023 at right tackle. Joining Jones in returning production for this group is James Daniels, who should secure one of the starting guard positions after starting all 17 regular season games for the Steelers last season. Isaac Seumalo will likely lock up the other guard spot unless Nate Hebrig competes for the job. Seumalo was a standout on the Steelers offensive line last season.

Looking at where the rookies fit in, Frazier appears to be the most likely option at center. His performance last season at West Virginia was outstanding, leading to his second-round selection. Fautanu will be an interesting addition to this group. While his size would typically confine him to an interior role on the line, his agility and consistent performance on the big stages indicate he could play tackle at the next level. I predict he'll secure the tackle spot opposite Jones. McCormick is more of a developmental prospect. Despite some impressive plays on tape, there are areas in McCormick's game that need improvement to compete for a starting role. I anticipate he will quickly grasp the excellent coaching he'll receive in Pittsburgh.

Backing up the young duo of Jones and Fautanu will be Dan Moore Jr., who held starting roles for the Steelers last season. Moore Jr. is best projected as a backup option in case of injury. Although his play last year did not meet the standard of a consistent starting lineman in the NFL, the experience gained should benefit him if he needs to play.

The Steelers have strategically bolstered their offensive line with a mix of experienced returners and promising rookies in the 2024 NFL Draft. With a focus on youth and talent development, this revamped line shows promise for the upcoming season. If these pieces can come together cohesively, the Steelers' offensive line has the potential to be a standout unit in the league.
