Nicholas Singleton Scouting Report
Nicholas Singleton is a physically gifted running back with a unique blend of size, athleticism, and explosiveness, giving him the potential to be a top-tier NFL running back.
Draft Grade: Round 3 - Adequate Starter
Strengths:
Prototype Frame/Build: At 6-foot, 220 pounds, Singleton possesses an ideal frame to handle the workload of an NFL running back. He has a thick, filled-out lower half to absorb contact and a lean upper body, both of which set the stage for him to be a well-rounded, high-end athlete.
Quick Burst/Acceleration: After the handoff, Singleton showcases the ability to reach top speed quickly. When he identifies a hole, he can burst through the line of scrimmage and reach the second or third level of the defense, creating explosive plays.
Lateral Agility: Singleton is a quick-footed back who can string together consecutive lateral cuts to make defenders miss in tight areas. There is an element of elusiveness to his game that makes him difficult to tackle in open space. He shows a good blend of quickness and contact balance overall.
Pad Height/Pad Leverage: When needed, Singleton lowers his pad level and powers through defenders. He has the strength to run through initial contact and fall forward to pick up yardage. Singleton can also be utilized in short-yardage situations, using his strength and contact balance to be effective.
Concerns:
Inconsistent Production: Compared to Singleton’s athletic traits, his production has been inconsistent from year to year. He finished his senior season with his fewest rushing yards but the most rushing touchdowns of any season in his career.
Vision: Singleton’s vision can be inconsistent at times, as he may miss a hole or running lane. He will also play at a sped-up tempo, not always allowing his linemen to finish creating lanes and opportunities. Singleton could benefit from more patience behind the line of scrimmage to become a more effective back.
