Baltimore Ravens 2024 Offensive Line Breakdown

The Baltimore Ravens enter the 2024 football season with their sights set on the Super Bowl. After an offseason that solidified one of the scariest backfields in the league, all eyes are on how the Ravens’ offensive line will hold up.

Baltimore’s offensive line is a group with its back to the wall. With question marks riddled across this line, the difference between this team being a legitimate contender and not will come down to the five guys up front.

Concern primarily lies within the interior positions, especially at both guard spots. With the departures of John Simpson and Kevin Zeitler, the Ravens must assess which players among a relatively inexperienced group of young linemen can step up.

Ben Cleveland, Andrew Vorhees, Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu, and Patrick Mekari will vie for the starting guard positions. Mekari, highly qualified and versatile, has been a reliable player for the Ravens over the past five seasons. While he is expected to fulfill various roles for the team, the absence of previous top-tier starters requires Mekari to transition to a full-time starting position. Cleveland also saw action in several games last season, and I anticipate he and Mekari to secure the starting guard roles for Week 1.

Many anticipated that the Ravens would select an offensive tackle on day one of the 2024 NFL draft. However, when pick No. 28 was used for Clemson DB Nate Wiggins, doubts arose regarding the team's plan to strengthen their offensive line through the draft. Any uncertainties were extinguished with the 62nd pick when Roger Rosengarten, a Joe Moore winner and one of the draft's most athletic linemen, was chosen.

Watching Rosengarten's performance at the Senior Bowl and reviewing his 2023 footage, I admired the great value the Ravens obtained with their second-round pick. Rosengarten appears to be a definite day-one starter and someone I believe will eventually fill Ronnie Stanley’s shoes, especially considering this is now the final year of his contract. If Rosengarten can make an immediate impact, it will greatly benefit the Ravens’ ability to form the most cohesive unit possible. With players like him, Stanley, and Tyler Linderbaum, a strong core is established for delivering top-tier performances.

Serving as Rosengarten’s backup is Daniel Faalele, a 6-foot-8, 380-pound lineman who's been considered a developmental tackle since being drafted in the fourth round in 2022. Now is the time for Faalele to prove himself as a viable option for the Ravens’ future, particularly due to his limited positional flexibility. In case of injuries, Josh Jones will likely act as the substitute at either tackle position. Jones' acquisition on a one-year deal this season is expected to provide valuable depth.

Completing the roster, Michigan State rookie Nick Samac aims to secure a backup role behind Linderbaum as he competes for a spot on the team in the upcoming season.

I'm genuinely thrilled to observe this Ravens offensive line. Despite the strong defense, wealth of offensive weapons, and possessing the most dynamic quarterback/running back pair in the league, the Ravens' success hinges on the performance of this line. If this youthful group can deliver a consistent season, the Ravens are undoubtedly poised to contend for a Super Bowl.
