Film Analysis:
Zion Tupuola-Fetui is a high-motor edge presence with hand counters to keep offensive tackles honest. Against the run, Tupuola-Fetui’s motor is evident on every snap. He’s consistently active at the point of attack and willing as a backside pursuant.
He’s not a high-level athlete to explode off the line and win the leverage battle, but will willingly engage and stick his face in the mud versus the run. Has experience with both his hand in the dirt and standing up. Plays with good gap integrity which remains integral in his ability to set the edge with limited burst to cut off runs that bounce.
As a pass rusher, Tupuola-Fetui showcases good usage of his hands but does play high. Will expose a large target area for linemen to attack early in his rush. Active feet that continue to churn if initially holstered. Limited bend but pass rush potential is evident with coaching. Has excellent length but tends to short-arm rushes and does not have a long-arm move in his repertoire at this point in time.
Overall, Tupuola-Fetui operates with an extremely hot motor and play demeanor to challenge for snaps rotationally. Will have to get stronger and more flexible to consistently earn snaps on all three downs, but remains a player whose length and desire to mix it up in whatever way possible to get to the pocket will intrigue teams.
