Film Analysis:
Trajan Jeffcoat is a well-framed defender with the ability to play both as an even-front edge and an odd-front outside linebacker. His potential is evident with continued development.
Against the run, Jeffcoat allows himself to lose leverage too quickly. He engages with his facemask and body instead of shooting his hands to the chest plate of the offensive lineman. Hand usage remains a major room for improvement as an edge setter against the run. Can slide up and down the line but explosiveness and hand technique fail to allow Jeffcoat to work into the backfield for TFL opportunities. Effort is apparent, though.
As a pass rusher, the potential is there for Jeffcoat to evolve. Flashes an excellent rip move to the outside (LSU) and has no issue jumping to the inside to mix up looks. Bend is apparent, but increased flexibility in his hips will allow him to heighten his ceiling. Undisciplined at times in his rush lanes, leaving chunks of space for QBs to attack. Comfortable rushing with both his hand in the dirt and upright. Explosiveness is below average at this point in time, allowing linemen to square up and keep things simple on an island (Alabama).
Overall, Jeffcoat has the size and stature teams look for at the position but is a prospect whose athleticism and overall skill set remain unrefined to project making an impact at the next level.
Prospect Projection: Priority UDFA
Exposures: Alabama (2023), LSU (2023)
