Film Analysis:
George Holani is a downhill runner who showcases excellent contact balance at the line of scrimmage. Good size and speed combo but an above-average athletic profile remains vacant from his game. While physical and a ball-carrier who arrives at contact with a high-powered leg drive and a low pad level, he lacks the burst to break through more physical tacklers.
He has the speed to sneak up on linebackers but will live on a linear plane as a north-south runner, making life tough when it comes to creating extra yards against more athletic LBs. One-cut ability is evident, but won’t jump from gap to gap. A consistent jump cut isn’t in his skill set, showcasing limited explosiveness. Has experience taking carries in the hip pocket of the QB in shotgun and in an extended backfield aligned in pistol (directly behind the QB).
In space, Holani showcases a diversified route tree with excellent acceleration out of his breaks, ultimately creating separation. He has good hands—more than suitable to run a variety of routes (wheel/angle/seam) to keep defenses honest. Not a dynamic threat in open space but does a nice job as a security blanket to gain yards on early downs. Advanced in pass pro, constantly searching for free runners (Washington). Not the biggest athlete, but will stick his face in the mud against any body type attacking the pocket.
Overall, Holani projects as a depth piece in a backfield with potential pop as a return man under new NFL return rules (one-cut ability).
