Film Analysis:

Jeremiah Trotter Jr. enters the NFL Draft after a well-decorated career at Clemson. Trotter Jr. stamped himself as a defensive playmaker, recording 202 tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, 13 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and four interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns). Trotter Jr. is a high-instinct player who uses this trait to make plays in both the run game and pass coverage.

Against the run, at the snap, Trotter Jr. does a great job of taking an initial read step forward and reading his run keys. A quick processor, Trotter Jr. can work to attack the line of scrimmage and make tackles near the line of scrimmage. Trotter Jr. does a good job of working through traffic on run plays, defeating blocks by shedding blockers or working underneath/overtop blockers to get to the ball-carrier. Trotter Jr. arrives with a violent temperament and has enough power in his tackles to knock ball-carriers back or stop them immediately. Trotter Jr. appears to have good short-area quickness and can plant and redirect to adjust to the flow of the play to make tackles. Against the run, Trotter Jr. is a high-IQ player who can immediately become a positive impact run defender in the NFL.

Against the pass, Trotter Jr.'s instincts show well in zone defense. Trotter Jr. does a good job of reading the quarterback's eyes and understanding route combinations. Multiple times during his career, Trotter Jr. was able to jump routes and intercept the ball.

The area of question for Trotter Jr. is his overall speed and how it applies to his run defense and in pass coverage. His lack of elite speed shows in how there are times when ball-carriers can beat him to turn the corner on outside runs. In pass coverage, his lack of speed shows in how he may struggle to stay with receivers in man-to-man coverage and can get separation.
