Film Analysis:

Jordan Jefferson transferred to LSU for the 2023 season after beginning his career at West Virginia. At LSU, Jefferson statistically had his best season, posting a stat line of 36 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. Jefferson’s combined physical traits of a quick first step and great upper/lower body strength allow him to be a good defender against the run.

Against the run, Jefferson has multiple ways to win based on alignment and responsibility. When his goal is to penetrate the line of scrimmage, he can use his quick first step to shoot into a gap or be athletic enough to execute a twist or stunt to get penetration. Jefferson can get into the backfield and disrupt the intended design of the play or make the tackle for loss. On run plays where his responsibility is gap control and holding the line of scrimmage, Jefferson can do that also. Against single blocks, Jefferson can consistently lock out offensive linemen and shed them when needed, showing his high-level functional strength. The only time where Jefferson may appear to get overwhelmed at times is on double teams where he has to fight to split the double teams. He can do it, he just needs to be more consistent.

Jefferson's biggest needed improvement would be his impact as a pass rusher. Jefferson tries to physically overwhelm offensive linemen and most times it ends in a stalemate at the line of scrimmage. Jefferson can work on first identifying pass and then trying to work the edges of the offensive lineman and working hand counters to win on the interior. There is optimism that Jefferson can develop this skill because it appears he has the physical tools to do so.
