Film Analysis:

Myles Cole made the step up in competition from the Group of 5 to the Power 5 level while also making a position change from playing the IDL to playing on the edge for Texas Tech. At 6-foot-6 and 280 pounds, Cole has the ideal size and arm length to develop into a contributing player in the NFL in both the run game and rushing the passer.

Against the run, Cole can set the edge due to his arm length and force runners to have to cut back inside into the teeth of the defense. Cole is a multiple-alignment player who has range along the defensive line and, in situations, can mess up the integrity of the offensive play due to his length and wingspan. On twists and stunts, Cole has a good first step and uses that to get into gaps and cause the backs to have to adjust.

As a pass rusher, Cole’s best traits are his first-step quickness to start his pass rush and his arm length. Cole prefers to work around the arc of the pocket, and once at the top of the arc, he uses his arm length to convert speed to power or his arm length to try and grab the quarterback. Both are effective because the quarterback can feel Cole’s presence and they have to move off of their spot or bail out of the pocket. As a pass rusher, Cole can be categorized as a player who can get quarterback pressure but doesn’t always finish with a sack.

Cole is a raw prospect who has areas that need development in both the run game and as a pass rusher. In the run game, Cole needs to get stronger at the point of attack as offensive linemen can flush him out of the play due to his inability to hold the point of attack. He also needs to play with better pad leverage because offensive linemen win the leverage battle at the line of scrimmage and control the rep. As a pass rusher, Cole appears to have some lower-body tightness that prevents him from consistently winning the edge against offensive linemen. Cole also needs to develop his hand usage and work on developing hand counters.

Overall, Cole projects as a developmental prospect that has upside due to his overall size, length, and high motor.
